In 2008, the "Development, Education, Culture, Health and Social Service Foundation", which tried to establish a vocational school called "Istanbul Glessim Vocational School", began its educational life with the vocational school established by the Ministry of National Education on June 14, 2008 and the Council of Ministers.

By Law No. 6114 of February 17, 2011, Istanbul Gelişim University was established in the academic year 2022-2023, with 6 faculties, a higher education institute, 2 colleges and 2 vocational schools, taking the step to become a "global university". Istanbul Gelesim University, which is growing every year with strong steps taken with the aim of becoming a university with a voice in the world, is one of the most preferred universities among the foundation universities in Turkey.

A total of 65 programs of Istanbul Gelişim University, which cooperates with leading institutions in its field and attaches great importance to internationalization in order to achieve global success, has been examined in detail and approved by international delegations appointed by German, British and American accreditation institutions such as AQAS, AHPGS, ABET and PEARSON. . Having succeeded in being the university with the most accredited programs in Turkey, Istanbul Gelişim University has also attracted worldwide attention with the steps it has taken to become international.

Arguing that higher education is the most important tool for sustainable development, today IGU offers its national and international students; It provides educational and training opportunities with 6 faculties, 2 colleges, 2 vocational schools, 70 undergraduate programs, 61 associate degree regular education programs, 34 associate degree secondary education programs, 32 thesis/32 non-thesis graduate programs and 7 doctoral programs within the scope of the Institute of Higher Education.
